The same code scheduled on an efficiency core will take longer to execute than on a performance core. Got a reference for that? It's just an observation based on my familiarity with the technical underpinnings. I didn't attempt a similar test because it's not how I would ever use it. I have the beta of EWC installed and it works fine for a couple tracks.

The odd thing is I tried Original - Epic Strings (also released native version) and got to ,340 tracks with an indicated 100% thread load in Logic with no issues. I have never observed such behavior with any VI in Logic that I can recall before. The indicated thread load in Logic is 25% or less with the cores in Activity Monitor being similarly low with no spiking shown in either, which makes the dropouts even more puzzling. ARO Foundations does the same thing but it takes more tracks (around double the number if I recall correctly). You can plainly hear this by soloing a single track. The problem I am having with it is dropouts (not pops, cradles or overload messages) if I have more than about 40 tracks.

If you download the beta currently for BBCSO you get 1.5.0, the same version number they claim they are rolling out next week and they delivered to folks that recently purchased BBCSO. Any more info on particular instruments you’ve found problematic? When you say dropouts with bbcso do you mean crackling? Are there any settings inside bbcso itsef that help? Are you finding kontakt better in that regard? Sorry for all the questions but your knowledge is very helpful!I have not tried BBCSO in Rosetta due to the PIA because Spitfire has chosen to not do a Universal binary - you have to go repair the plugin in the installer app to reinstall the Intel version as I understand it. Did you use bbcso in m1 mode and noticed any general differences or performance improvements between m1 and Rosetta? Also how are you getting bbcso 1.5? In the spitfire app it is at version 1.2.0 and can not be upgraded. The CPU also spikes with just a few instances.

I’m getting crackling and trying to figure out how to help it. I’m using spitfire also, lots of instruments in Kontakt, then bbcso, Eric Whitaker labs etc. Thanks for this and I second the question re bbcso. Now we just need someone who is using SINE on M1 to chime in.! Maybe somehow I need to start looking at how to move away from Kontakt. If some NI person on their forum is saying, oh yea well hardly anyone else has made native versions, when that's BS anyway, then it comes across pretty badly to me. It also sounds like NI are complacent about updating Kontakt for M1. So it sounds like currently M1 is pretty bad if you do Kontakt orchestral composing (which is most composers). I'm not sure what Barry meant by having tested the daylights out of it when he hasn't even tried Kontakt once in a DAW on an M1. Pigments seems to have gotten a sizable performance boost as well. Now we're talking.

Omnisphere/Keyscape/Trilian in particular got huge performance increases in their native ARM versions. Native synths (Omnisphere, Arturia Pigments, Synapse DUNE et al, Diva, Repro) perform fantastic. Abbey Road Foundations was better the BBCSO but nowhere as good as Originals. I got 340 tracks of Originals - Epic Strings (latest released native version), but had dropouts with even relatively modest track counts of BBCSO (the latest 1.5.0 version). I have had mixed success with Spitfire's player.

While still running in Rosetta (and therefore not as efficient as I suspect it will end up once native), 200 tracks of VSL Synchron Player with 3 mic channels of Synchron Strings Pro and Synchron Brass was stable and useable, although load times were longer than OPUS. I would say less than 100 tracks of Kontakt is workable, but 200-300 is not currently practical. If you are doing orchestral scoring (either concert music or music to picture) and the bulk of your palette/template is Kontakt, you're going to have some challenges until NI gets their act together. In large part due to ridiculously slow load and save times (300 tracks takes over 15 min vs 1 min on Intel).Ĭontrast that with EW Hollywood Orchestra OPUS (which is now native) - 300 tracks loads in 41 sec, saves in 45 sec and is completely stable. I got to 334 (Logic native, Kontakt obviously in Rosetta) eventually but it was painful. A fellow user and I did some Kontakt testing using different patches from Spitfire Albion ONE, Solstice & Tundra with a simple monophonic MIDI region.
